Some points You May Concern About Bearings
We manufacture a comprehensive range of bearings, including ball bearings (deep groove, angular contact, thrust), roller bearings (cylindrical, spherical, tapered, needle), plain bearings (also called sleeve bearings or bushings), and specialized bearing solutions tailored to specific customer requirements.
Selecting the right bearing depends on factors like the magnitude and direction of the load (radial, axial, or combined), required rotational speed (high speeds or low), operating environment (temperature, contamination), shaft size, and desired service life. Our technical team can help analyze your application and recommend the most suitable bearing. Proper bearing selection is critical.
The key difference lies in the rolling elements. Ball bearings use spherical balls which provide point contact, making them suitable for higher speeds but generally lower load capacities compared to roller bearings. Roller bearings use cylindrical, spherical, or tapered rollers which provide line contact, allowing them to support significantly higher loads, especially high load scenarios, but often at lower maximum speeds. Both bearings have two main rings.
Several factors influence bearing life: the magnitude of the operating load (avoiding overload), rotational speed, adequacy and cleanliness of the lubrication (lubricate correctly with the right lubricant), the effectiveness of the seal in preventing contamination, proper installation and fit, operating temperature, and the overall machine alignment and vibration levels. Using the correct bearing type is fundamental. Many bearings may fail prematurely due to improper handling or contamination.
Lubrication is vital to reduce friction between the rolling elements (ball or roller) and the race surfaces. A proper lubricant (like grease or oil) minimizes wear, dissipates heat, prevents corrosion, and helps seal out contaminants. Many of our bearings are designed to be lubricated for life with high-quality grease and effective seals. For others, the relubrication interval depends heavily upon the application conditions; we can provide guidance. Never let a bearing run dry. Proper lubrication extends bearing life. There should always be a passage for the lubricant.
Seals (often made of rubber or plastic) and shields (typically steel) are critical bearing components. Their primary function is to retain the lubricant (grease) within the bearing and prevent contaminants like dirt, dust, and moisture from entering the sensitive internal areas like the race and rolling elements. A good seal significantly enhances bearing longevity, especially in harsh environment conditions. Some bearings are also offered open, without a seal.
The most commonly used material for our bearing rings (outer ring and inner ring) and rolling elements (ball / roller) is high-chromium bearing steel due to its hardness and durability. We also manufacture bearings from stainless steel for corrosion resistance, ceramic for high speeds and non-conductive applications, and various types of plastic (like nylon) for specific low-load or chemical resistance needs. The cage material can vary (e.g., steel, brass, plastic).
Yes. We offer specific bearing types designed for various load conditions. Roller bearings, particularly cylindrical and spherical roller bearings, are excellent for very high load carrying capacity, primarily radial load. Angular contact ball bearings and tapered roller bearings are designed to handle combined radial and axial loads. Thrust bearings (both ball and roller) are specifically designed for predominantly axial load.
- For a custom bearing, we typically need detailed information about the application: shaft and housing dimensions, the type and magnitude of the load (radial, axial), operating speed, required service life, operating temperature, any space constraints, and the operating environment. The more details you provide about the mechanical system, the better we can tailor the bearing design.
Proper installation is crucial for bearing performance. Typically, bearings are installed with an interference fit onto the shaft or into the housing. This often requires a press or controlled heating. It's critical to apply press force only to the ring being fitted (e.g., press the inner ring when mounting on a shaft, press the outer ring when mounting in a housing) to avoid damaging the rolling elements or race. Ensure alignment and cleanliness. Correct fit prevents rotation of the wrong component.
